Short Course Invalidates American Record at Cherry BlossomBy Adam Kopet Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run organizers announced Friday that records broken at Sunday's race have been invalidated, because the course was 240 feet (about 73m) short. This year's course had been altered due to construction in Washington, D.C. A turn-around point was improperly placed. This means Stanley Kebenei, who ran 46:00 for fourth place in the men's race will not be rewarded with the American record. Race organizers will honor the bonus prize money athletes earned, totaling $13,500. In addition to Kebenei's American record not be recognized, Mary Wanjiru of Kenya will not get credit for the U.S. all-comers record. |
